Frequency:
- Typically once per week; some individuals may follow the protocol once every two weeks.
- Patients that are 30yrs old and younger, we do not recommend Rapamycin unless they have a specific condition that would benefit (see age policy). However if patient is still interested we recommend cycling once every two weeks with additional cycling off throughout the year, depending on their needs and goals.
Dosage:
- Starter Dose: 3 mg per week
- Weight-Based Dosing Formula:
- Weight in Kg * 0.075 = Dose in mg
- Do not recommend going above 10mg/week for most patients
Example:
- A 70 kg individual would take: 70 * 0.075 = 5.25 mg (rounded down to 5 mg).
Optimal dosing time:
- Low-dose rapamycin can be taken at any time of day, with or without food, based on what fits best into your routine. However, it’s important to take rapamycin at the same time each week to maintain steady levels in your system. Taking it with food—specifically a high-fat meal—may improve its absorption and bioavailability.
- Best to avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice while taking rapamycin, as they can interfere with how the medication is metabolized, potentially increasing its levels in your bloodstream and leading to unwanted side effects (note: some patients use this when taking a lower dose).
Adjustment Period
Tolerance Assessment:
- Monitor for any adverse effects during the initial application period.
- Adjust dosage based on tolerance and clinical response.
Increased Dosage:
- If well tolerated, the dosage may be adjusted according to clinical guidance and patient needs.
- A conservative approach to increase dose is by 1 mg/week increments every 2-4 weeks.
Advanced Cycling:
- Additional macro/micro cycling with intermittent fasting and exercise protocols is an advanced option for those who express interest as a way to balance anabolic/catabolic processes through the year (patient handout in progress)
